Fans have to be careful where they buy GTA 6. And that doesn’t just affect the console.
As of June 25, 2026, PlayStation and Xbox players can pre-order Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar itself is now making it clear that you have to be careful where and for which platform you buy the open-world game. If you get a cheap deal abroad, you may end up without a game.
If you buy GTA 6 for the PS5, you have to be careful
Rockstar writes on an official support page that GTA 6 codes for the PS5 are tied to certain regions. This applies to the physical store versions of the game, which do not contain a CD, but only a download code.
PS5 codes purchased in certain regions can only be redeemed in a PlayStation account that belongs to a suitable country group.
Germany is part of a larger list of countries from Europe, Africa and Asia. Anyone who buys a GTA 6 code in Germany could also redeem it in New Zealand, but not in the USA. Conversely, a code purchased in Great Britain will not work in Germany.

Xbox players don’t have to worry about this at all. According to Rockstar, there are no regional restrictions for code on the Microsoft console (Source: Rock star).
GTA 6: This is how players play it safe
If you buy GTA 6 in Germany and want to play on a PS5 registered in Germany, then you don’t have to worry. The game will work without any problems. However, you should be very careful when buying from abroad.
GTA 6 is still scheduled to be released on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
