Todd Howard now talks about them in an interview with Kinda Funny Games Future of the franchise. The Bethesda boss is secretive and doesn't directly announce a new game. But he at least gives the waiting players a hint:

We're looking at what we're doing with the franchise and whether we still feel good about it – I can't reveal it now – but here's our outlook for the future. When does season 2 come out? What do we do on mobile devices? What do we do in (Fallout) 76? What do we do with this thing? What do we do with this other thing? And when do they appear?

Howard goes on to say that he would like to release all of these projects immediately if he could. The most important goal, however, is one high quality product to deliver. Hopefully better than the bug-plagued next-gen patch for Fallout 4.

Are two new Fallout games in the works?

Todd Howard's statement should probably not be taken directly as an announcement. The reference to release periods still makes it clear that the Bethesda boss is not just talking like that, but rather has actual projects in mind (This becomes even clearer in the video). However, these may not be completely new role-playing games, but rather remakes, remasters or mobile games.

However, it is almost certain that after Amazon's success now more fallout is being considered. Howard's words match the information of an Xbox insider, according to whom Microsoft definitely wants to bring a new game onto the market – even if it is not developed directly by Bethesda.
