Because the community in the game saves children, the developers are now taking an example

With the latest general order, Helldivers 2 has presented its players with a nasty decision: Should they concentrate on unlocking a new weapon or should they concentrate on saving sick children?

The community has not been seduced by the promise of making life hell for alien invaders with the MD-17 anti-tank mines. An impressive proportion of players have without hesitation rushed into battle for the sick children.

Think of the children!

Almost 33,000 fans of Helldivers 2 responded to the distress call from the planet Vernen Wells, where the hospital in question came under fire. Only 3,000 players, in turn, worked to liberate Marfark, where a large explosives depot stored valuable resources for the production of anti-tank mines.

This meant that Vernen Wells could actually be freed – even if perhaps not every Helldiver acted for completely selfless reasons. For example, Reddit speculated that the choice was a nasty test by the developers to put their community to the test.

The developers have now responded to this. Johan Pilestedt, the creative director of Helldivers 2, announced that he would follow the community's positive example. That is why the Arrowhead studio donated exactly $4,311 to the aid organization Save the Children donated.

By the way: Under the article at X (formerly) Twitter, a Helldiver asked Pilestedt when it would have happened if the community had decided differently. The Creative Director only replied ominously You do not want to know that ….

Perhaps the theory that the general order was a test by the developers was not so far-fetched after all?
