Baldur’s Gate 3 is a fairly intuitive game that explains the most important mechanics in the tutorial section. A Reddit user even discovered and posted a quality-of-life function after 50 hours of play. Thousands of other players also commented their late discoveries.
The discovery: Reddit user redryder74 found out after 50 hours of playing Baldur’s Gate 3 that he can adjust the spells of classes with a spell book without taking a long rest or leveling up. This means that mages, clerics, paladins and druids can happily swap spells. Bards, wizards and warlocks do not.
redryder74 posted his discovery in the Baldur’s Gate 3 Reddit community asking what kind of “nonsense” other players had discovered.
What does the reddit community say? The post garnered over 2,800 comments within 24 hours. The users share their biggest “hacks”.
The most upvoted comment, however, deals with ropes and the disappointment surrounding their inability to function: In reality, as well as in pen & papers, ropes can be used, among other things, for climbing, tying up opponents or setting traps. Unfortunately, Baldur’s Gate 3 lacks these features.

However, the community also has a lot of helpful functions up its sleeve. Here are the top 5:
Ritual spell: Some ritual spells are not always immediately identified as such when selecting a spell. That’s why some users played the game completely without spells like Featherfall up to a certain point.
Ritual spells do not require a spell slot. To cast them, your character needs the “Ritual Caster” ability, a talent (“Feat”). You can use the following spells without a spell slot:
- Feather fall
- Recognize thoughts
- Talk to animals
- Talk to the dead
- Dressing up yourself
- Improve jump
- Find a confidante

Double-click while rolling dice: Anyone who watches the dice roll and waits patiently with each roll until all the bonuses are slowly added to the number rolled will quickly have 100 hours behind them in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, by double-clicking you can speed up the throw and jump straight to the result.
Operate lever via arrow: Yes that works. It’s even essential in certain parts of the game. For example, in the Underdark towards the end of Act 1, this becomes helpful – we won’t reveal more for spoiler reasons. But you can also shoot valves, switches and levers with an arrow and trigger them.
Willingly stop concentrating at any time: You can make your characters lose concentration at any time if necessary.
The ranger should no longer focus on the “Mark of the Hunter”? No problem. Please let Gale drop Silence so Shadowheart can cross the area without losing Beacon of Hope? Immediately – even randomly during another character’s initiative turn!
In the video you can see, among other things, where you can end concentration spells.
