The next long-awaited role-playing game from Obsidian, Avowed, is scheduled to be released in fall 2024. At this year's Xbox showcase, the developer showed new gameplay content, and a little more.

However, there was apparently an oversight during the presentation, which is why the possible release date is now circulating on social networks.

You can get a first impression of the game in the new trailer:

No statement yet on the release date

Release: It has been known for some time that Avowed will be released in 2024. However, the exact release date was apparently accidentally published during the Xbox showcase. For a short time, the official Obsidian website reported November 12th as the release date.

There is a corresponding screenshot on several accounts on X (formerly Twitter). The date was removed from the Obsidian homepage shortly afterwards. During the live presentation, the developers only announced that the game would be released this year.

So far, neither Obsidian nor Xbox have made a statement as to whether the date is correct.

Surprising in third person?

Third-person camera: Avowed was initially announced in July 2020 as a pure first-person role-playing game and could have filled the gap left by Skyrim.

During the Xbox showcase, Obsidian's game director Carrie Patel announced that there would also be another perspective. The quote can be heard in the video linked below at minute 10:44:

Much of the material we'll see today is in first-person, but we also have a third-person option for players who prefer that.

Gameplay: In the 30-minute presentation, Carrie Patel also showed some new gameplay content. After starting in the Emerald Stair region, the game continued with some battles, quests and side quests.

The combat system in particular was criticized at a presentation in January. In the meantime, improvements have been made, as announced in February. You can see them from minute 6:35 and 15:00 in the video embedded above.

As the game progresses, you can see dialogue with group members (7:20), visit your own camp (10:30), and improve items and character attributes (11:08 and 13:30).

Avowed is set in the world of Eora, which already served as the setting for the role-playing games Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 developed by Obsidian. Avowed does not have an open world, but wants to give players a great deal of freedom in their quests.

The role-playing game will be released for PC and Xbox Series X/S and will be available directly in Game Pass upon release.
