Audacity 3.6.0 now with master effects, new theme, FFmpeg 7 support and more

Audacity, the free audio editor, has another update to the final version 3.6.0. This was released yesterday evening and brings with it a number of new features and a number of corrections. Audacity now has master effects.

New function:

  • Master effects can be applied to the entire project at once.
  • A new compressor and limiter have been added, replacing the previous versions. When these effects are used as real-time effects, a gain reduction gradient has been added.
  • Audacity now has new and improved dark and light themes. You can switch between themes via Preferences -> Interface. The theme you used previously is still there as a classic theme, and even older themes can optionally be installed as custom themes from here.
  • Audacity is now much faster than before, especially when working on larger projects and on larger screens.

Changes in Audacity 3.6.0

  • Added FFmpeg 7 support.
  • You can now insert audio files into Audacity using Ctrl+V.
  • Alternative waveform colors can now be designed using custom designs.
  • The track name overlay preference and the “mix themes” preference have been removed.
  • Added Tools > Export > Export selected audios option.
  • Import Raw: Added support for offsets larger than 2 GB.
  • The “What’s New” dialog has been redesigned.
  • An option has been added to the View menu to show or hide the RMS value in waveforms.
  • OpenVINO AI effects are now available for download from audacityteam.org/download/openvino/.
  • Many bug fixes
