Popular manufacturer of smart home accessories Aqara has released its first Aqara G4 video intercom with HomeKit support and face recognition.
The gadget received a 1080p camera that transmits an image using the secure HomeKit Secure Video protocol to the Home application on Apple ecosystem devices. In addition, the intercom supports local streaming to Amazon Alexa and Google Home smart devices.

The face recognition function works with artificial intelligence, so Aqara G4 can trigger individual automation for different people. For example, if the camera detects a family member, then the smart home will be able to launch the “Welcome Home” scene, and if the courier is detected, the gadget will play a pre-recorded message.
The new video intercom is powered by six AA batteries, which last approximately four months. Alternatively, users can connect the device to DC power for 24/7 recording and use the battery for backup power.

The repeater has a 95 dB speaker and a USB-C port for charging. All videos can be stored locally, in iCloud or on the Aqara cloud platform.
