Brand new Lego set is 39 euros cheaper before it’s even released.
With the Donkey Kong Arcade set, Lego is bringing back a real classic game from 1981. The kit for adults will not be released until August 1st, but can already be pre-ordered from dealer Alternate for 130.90 euros (view at Alternate). The set with 1367 pieces normally costs 169.99 euros.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Lego arcade machine
The 39 centimeter high slot machine offers more than just a backdrop. Inside there is a mechanic that recreates the feeling of playing back then. A lever can be used to set barrels in motion, which then roll down the ladder frame. Arcade fans can then move Super Mario (then still Jumpman) using a joystick and have him jump over the barrels at the push of a button. Of course, the Lego set is not quite as interactive as the old video game.
We like this:
- + Detailed look for the shelf
- + The arcade machine really works
This bothers us:
- – Price is still quite high, as is typical for Lego
- – No minifigures included

Who is Donkey Kong Arcade made of Lego worth for?
The set is clearly aimed at adult video game fans and lovers of classic slot machines. The thoughtful mix of nostalgic design and interactive mechanics makes the model a special exhibition piece. With Alternate’s showcase offer, Nintendo fans can save even before the official release.
