After the release of a short video which asked players to be ready, Housemarque disappointed more than one. Ultimately, it is not a second opus that is planned for this incredible PlayStation exclusive, nor even a DLC.

Among the PlayStation exclusives, Returnal is one of the most original titles. The studio's rogue-lite TPS Housemarque could have celebrated its third anniversary – April 30, 2024 – with great fanfare this year, but it seems that the developers preferred to wear small shoes for the event. Where fans were waiting for a second opus or DLC, it was ultimately something completely different that was announced. Many comments express great disappointment, which is understandable.
A disappointing third birthday
The Finnish studio looked like a heavy teaser, on X (Twitter). At least that's what the community believed. In the facts, It's pretty interesting as a third anniversary, but it's nothing compared to players' expectations.
This announcement is, honestly, a great birthday present for the three years of a game. On the program, three different projects to allow players to enjoy the universe of the opus in another way. Not everyone realizes this kind of idea. However, because of the cryptic announcement, players' hopes were much higher than the studio had anticipatedleaving a bitter taste in fans' mouths.
But then, what are these gifts?
Among these three projects, two are still in preparation. In fact one of these projects was released at the same time as today's announcement. First we will have a graphic novel. This one delves deeper into the game's story, which will please fans who love the universe. Named “Returnal: Fallen Asteria”, Actugaming tells us that it will be a story spread over 88 pages. It will be released on October 22. We then have an Artbook which will be published by Dark Horse. Once again, it's a good idea to delve deeper into the universe. Finally, it is a black and white animated video which serves as a third gift. This is already available on YouTube and animates the pages of the first chapter of the comic book mentioned earlier. Unfortunately, this is not what the players wanted.
