Game of Thrones and its extended universe

No need to introduce you to the world of George RR Martin, as it has benefited from great visibility thanks to its television adaptation which saw the light of day in 2011. Although the end of the series did not convince all fans, they were still won over by the spin-off entitled House of The Dragon in 2022. A second season will see the light of day within a few weeks, proving thus its success with the public.

If you follow the news in this universe, you are aware that the 75-year-old American writer has never hidden his ambition to develop a universe around his famous saga. Thus, other spin-off projects are planned, such as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Edge Knight. However, many expected to see the continuation of the character's adventures Jon Snow. The actor who played him in the series, Kit Harington, did everything to convince HBO productions. Despite the approval of George RR Martin, and his continuing hopes, this project was indeed canceled. Unfortunately, this is also the case for another spin-off which will probably not see the light of day.

Another Game of Thrones spin-off canceled

After the Jon Snow spin-off, HBO canceled another project. Provisionally named “Game of Thrones: 10,000 Ship”, the screenplay for which was entrusted to Brian Helgeland, it would seem that any hope of seeing it one day on the screen is in vain.. The reasons ? The producers felt that the time period of the series was too far removed from previous productions. It was a series about Queen Nymeria who supposedly led her people to a new land, after her country was ruined. The screenwriter also compares this story to that of Moses.

Nymeria leads her people, trying to gather as many people as possible, but things are always in danger of falling apart as they travel around a fictionalized version of the Mediterranean, looking for a new home to settle down . Their life was nomadic. Living in an interconnected raft city, this great floating city. Sometimes the characters would land, but they were often driven from the land as they sought refuge, their version of the promised land.

Despite the screenwriter's hopes, there is little chance that this promising spin-off will see the light of day. HBO is particularly selective regarding series projects based on the Game of Thrones universe. While waiting to discover other productions from this universe, the next season of House of The Dragon is just around the corner! In the meantime, you can rewatch the first season on Amazon Prime Video.
