Animal Crossing: New Horizons offers you more than 400 residents. While some island guests like Gunnar, Melinda or Rosina are very popular with fans, others tend to attract questioning looks. Some seem creepy, others strange or just completely out of line.

Of course, this list should be taken with a wink. Every resident has their fans – even the candidates in this photo series. Nevertheless, there are some islanders that regularly rank among the most unpopular or unusual designs in community rankings. Here are our 20 candidates in no particular order.

Dörte (diva)

Dörte has her name for a reason. The purple frog lady immediately catches the eye with her extravagant styling. The combination of bright make-up, bold lips and her self-confident look means that many fans find her more irritating than enthusiastic.

Dörte definitely has character – visually she is definitely one of the most striking residents in the game.

Hubert (Barold)

At first glance, Hubert seems like a cozy bear. At second glance, however, you notice the red lips, the small eyes and his somewhat strange facial expression.

And when you see his living room, the feeling doesn’t get any better. Between servers, monitors and surveillance cameras, you can’t help but wonder what the bear is doing all the time.

Peter

There are people who are afraid of spiders. Others from heights. And then there are people who are afraid of clowns.

The latter probably won’t warm up to Pietro.

Nadine (Hazel)

Nintendo designs a cute squirrel. Pink cheeks, cute face, fluffy tail. Then someone raises a monobrow and everyone nods in agreement. This meeting must have taken place somewhere.

Rafael (Limberg)

Rafael looks as if he has already experienced a lot. His beard, mischievous grin and striking facial markings give him a look that doesn’t exactly scream cozy island life.

Reinhold (Rodney)

Reinhold walks around like someone who accidentally ended up in a strange lecture and is now hoping that no one notices.

Katrin (Rocket)

Katrin officially belongs to a superhero team. We don’t know what crime she is fighting. Maybe bad taste. Unfortunately, she seems to be losing the fight.

Zita (tabby)

Zita looks like someone drew a cat without knowing what it looked like and decided to randomize all the facial features. The result is definitely memorable.

Picko (Peck)

A passionate Animal Crossing player we know likes to say: “Birds have dead eyes.” – and she’s right! Especially when it comes to Picko. Just looking at him sends chills down your spine. Even his gray long-sleeved shirt, which is decorated with a lifeless palm tree, just screams death and dying. You don’t want to meet Picko on the island at night.

Coco (Coco)

Koko has the rare ability to look cute, scary, and completely emotionless all at the same time. Her eyes look like two portals into another dimension – and we’re not sure we want to go there.

Robby (Ribbot)

A robot frog. Someone at Nintendo floated the idea and no one objected. The result is now on our island and making strange noises.

Ottfried (Octavian)

Ottfried looks like he hates you for something you haven’t done yet. But don’t worry: he’ll definitely tell you.

Berthold (Beardo)

Mustache, bald head, sideburns and that legendary belly fluff. Bertholdt looks as if the hair on his head has been steadily moving south.

Wastl (Benjamin)

With Wastl, just one look at his face is often enough to understand why he appears on many “ugliest residents” lists. His unusual facial expression and strange choice of colors make him one of the most bizarre dogs in the game.

Günther (Graham)

Günther has the energy of a man who, without being asked, will explain to you why the gaming PC he built himself is better than yours.

Sani (Raddle)

Sani is actually supposed to look like a doctor. However, he has more of the appearance of a mad scientist who is in the process of assembling another frog from spare parts.

Chang

Seriously, sometimes we wonder if the developers used a random generator when designing some characters. Chang is pink, wearing a beige sweater vest with different colored stars on it. Chang’s staring gaze and facial expression just give off serial killer vibes. We demand a court-ordered ban on proximity.

Jeanette (Jambette)

Jeanette enters a room and everything immediately seems like a soap opera. You literally expect dramatic music to start immediately.

Stefan (Stinky)

Stefan is a wrestler. His mask is said to be frightening. Instead, she looks like he got dressed in the dark in the morning and reached for his underwear instead of a mask.

Carlo (Croque)

Carlo seems like the neighbor who looks out the window in annoyance before anyone has even made a noise. For him, a bad mood is not a condition, but a hobby.
