AMD Strix processors rumored to feature ten-core Ryzen AI 165 models, sources claim

Gamingdeputy reported on May 9 that an “anonymous netizen” stated in a video submitted by the source Jinzhu Upgrade Package that AMD Strix series APU processors will include Ryzen AI 165 with ten CPU cores.

Gamingdeputy compiled this “anonymous netizen's” video explaining the entire AMD Zen5 product line as follows:

Granite Ridge and Fire Range

These two models correspond to the standard desktop platform and the existing-HX desktop-class mobile processor respectively.

The main changes between the two products compared to the previous generation areSwitch to Zen5 architecture CCD using N4 processat the same time, the memory JEDEC specification support is increased to 6000~6400MT/s;

Granite Ridge and Fire Range still maintain a maximum 16-core design, and the maximum L3 capacity of the X3D version remains at 128MB.

Strix

This series of processors maintains single-chip design and TSMC N4 process.

It uses a dual CCX structure, including 4 Zen5 standard cores and 8 Zen5c cores, with a total of 16+8=24 (MB) L3 cache. The maximum frequency is slightly lower than the 5.2GHz of the Hawk series and will reach 5.1GHz;

In terms of GPU, the Strix series processors will be equipped with up to 8WGP (16CU) RDNA 3.5 architecture core display, with a frequency of around 2.6~2.7GHz.Energy efficiency is expected to be greatly improved compared to existing products;

The Strix series processors will also include an NPU with a computing power of up to 40TOPS.

AMD provides LPDDR5 and DDR5 memory support for this series of processors.However, there was only the former in the first launch;

In addition, the Strix family of processors PCIe lanes are reduced from 4 to 16 compared to the previous generation.gaming laptops need to choose between dual PCIe x4 M.2 bays and PCIe x8 independent graphics bandwidth.

The Strix series CPU currently includes two models. In addition to the 12-core Ryzen AI 9 HX 170 that has been exposed, there will also be a 10-core Ryzen AI 165.Only the 12-core model has HX in its name.

Kraken

The Krackan series processors have many similarities with the Strix seriescan also provide 16 PCIe channels, be equipped with an NPU with a computing power of more than 40TOPS, and support LPDDR5 and DDR5 memory, but DDR5 memory support will also be provided for the first time.

Compared to Strix,Krackan SeriesMainly reduced the core specifications of CPU and GPU:

The CPU of the Krackan series processor is reduced to 4 Zen5 cores and 4 Zen5c cores, the L3 cache is also reduced to 16MB, and the GPU specifications are cut in half to 4WGP (8CU).

“Anonymous netizen” speculationMany game books will choose the Krackan seriesRather than Strix series processors.

Strix Halo

The Strix Halo series processors will adopt a multi-chip packaging structure, which contains two CCDs (CPU chips) and a GCD (chip containing GPU) that are different from Granite Ridge.CCD communicates with GCD using an interconnection bridge.

This series of processors contains up to 16 Zen5 cores, has up to 64MB L3 cache, and an NPU with a computing power of up to 70TOPS, and can still provide 16 PCIe lanes.

The GPU part of Strix Halo reaches 20WGP (40CU) and adopts RDNA3.5 architecture.Has up to 32MB Infinity Cache(Unlimited cache, that is, the MALL cache that appeared in previous reports).

In terms of memory, Strix Halo has 16 16-bit wide LPDDR5 memory channels, with a total memory width of 256 bits, which is equivalent to 4-channel DDR5.

In response to netizens' video comments, Golden Pig Upgrade Package stated that it has not yet seen support for LPCAMM2 replaceable memory in the POR for the Strix Halo series processors.
