Amazon Prime gets in the mood for the TV premiere and shows scenes from the series

The TV series starts on Amazon Prime in October “Like a Dragon: Yakuza”. The focus is on new storylines and character developments that were not covered in the games.

A new trailer provides further insights into the production, introduces various characters and also shows a vehicle that falls like rain from the sky.

The world of the Yakuza in two timelines

According to Amazon, Like a Dragon: Yakuza will not only explore the life of Kiryu Kazuma, but also explore universal themes such as family, friendship and loyalty. These are represented in the series through various relationships, such as those between Yakuza bosses and their subordinates. The same applies to “orphans and their carers as well as mentors and students”.

“These relationships are sometimes characterized by deep affection, sometimes by violent conflict, and are all closely intertwined,” says the official description.

The series is set in the fictional city of Kamurocho and combines two timelines:

  • In 1995, Kiryu and his friends Nishiki, Yumi and Miho plan a risky robbery at an arcade, which implicates the group in the Yakuza machinations of the Dojima family.
  • In 2005, Kiryu is released from prison and learns that his old friends are in danger. This leads him back to Kamurocho, where old friendships and Yakuza alliances are put to the test.
