Rumors and speculation have been circulating for a while now Face/Off 2now there's new movement in the matter: The sequel to one of the best action films of all time could actually be coming and supposedly even Nicolas Cage and John Travolta are back in the mix.
Back in the enemy's body
At least that's what the established industry insider claims Daniel Richtman. But there are even more indications that John Woo's 1997 action classic is getting a sequel. Just a few weeks ago, director Alex Wingard (Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire) revealed that he is continuing to direct the project.
An exciting script is said to already exist for this, while details about a possible production or cinema release are still awaited. Opposite The Hollywood Reporter Wingard even went so far as to claim:
This is one of those things you read and think to yourself: Oh man. This is exactly the sequel Face/Off deserves. I could never have imagined that.

What's new now is that Nicolas Cage and John Travolta are apparently returning for Face/Off 2 – something Adam Wingard (via World of Reel) attaches particular importance. It remains to be seen whether Castor Troy and Sean Archer will also play the roles. There are currently no plot details known about the planned sequel.
Of course, it can be debated whether Castor Troy actually died in the finale of John Woo's 1997 original or perhaps survived. Maybe a completely new character will wear his face? Wait. At least Nicolas Cage revealed in an interview with Colliderhaving already discussed sequel ideas with Wingard.
Face/Off 2 is coming – but probably not too soon
Wingard has a lot planned: As good as the chances of Face/Off 2 are right now, the sequel will probably have to wait a while. After all, director Adam Wingard first wants to create a live-action Thundercats series as well as another sequel to his Godzilla/Kong trilogy.
At 60 and 70 respectively, Nicolas Cage and John Travolta are not getting any younger. In Face/Off 2, the two acting veterans don't necessarily have to take on the main roles. It remains exciting to see exactly what kind of film Face/Off 2 ultimately becomes.
