Activision: New studio founded – developers of The Last of Us & The Witcher on board

The publisher Activision has announced the founding of a new studio. Accordingly, Elsewhere Entertainment will create a AAA brand in the future. Some experienced employees are already on board.

In recent months we've mostly heard about layoffs and studio closures in the industry. Many publishers are currently cutting costs after the industry as a whole stopped growing last year. Now Activision has announced that they are actually founding a new studio.

Accordingly, the new studio Elsewhere Entertainment is being built in Warsaw, Poland. There will be some experienced developers working on big brands such as “Uncharted”, “The Last of Us”, “The Witcher”, “Cyberpunk 2077”, “Tom Clancy's The Division”, “Far Cry” and also “Destiny “had worked.

Activision has big ambitions

However, they are still looking for new employees to create a “state-of-the-art, next-generation gaming experience”. According to initial information, Activision wants to create “a franchise with a lasting legacy that extends far beyond the games” at Elsewhere Entertainment.

Those responsible had also spoken of a “narrative and genre-defining AAA franchise”. However, you don't need to expect any concrete details about the brand yet, as it is likely to be in an early concept phase at best.

By the way, Elsewhere Entertainment is not the only Polish Activision studio. Infinity Ward Poland had already opened in Krakow some time ago. The studio supports the “Call of Duty” developers and ensures that the shooter can be released at the usual pace.

Activision has been part of Microsoft since the beginning of the year. And as part of the takeover, the Redmond company had extensive consolidations made and a large number of employees were laid off. After most recently the two Bethesda studios Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin had closedthe publisher came under criticism.

However, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has done so in the past explainedthat the lack of economic growth in the industry would result in a corresponding wave of layoffs. If the profit margins of the productions no longer meet expectations, costs are saved and jobs are cut.

This makes it all the more interesting to see what Activision will do with Elsewhere Entertainment in the future. We wish all employees much success in developing their debut project.
