According to the author, acts as a “curtain for the new characters”

In the course of the remake, various new characters found their way into the game that were not represented in the original “Final Fantasy 7”. As scenario author Hiroaki Iwaki revealed, the new additions will be taken up again and examined in more detail in the third act of the remake.

Shortly after the release of “Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth” at the end of February, the developers at Square Enix gave us the first small status update on the third act of the remake.

As those responsible confirmed, the well-coordinated development team remained largely together and is currently aiming for a release in 2027. The community discovered another interesting detail in the book called “Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Material Ultimania Plus”.

Here the developers discussed, among other things, the new characters in the remake, who were not represented in the original “Final Fantasy 7” from 1997. Scenario author Hiroaki Iwaki confirmed that we can look forward to seeing the new additions again in the third act of the remake.

Optional side missions expand the story

As Iwaki explained, the third and final part is seen as a “curtain for the new characters”. In practice, this means that players can look forward to a wave of optional missions in which the authors go into the stories and backgrounds of the new characters.

This will allow you to find out more details about the new characters if you are interested. Unfortunately, no further details about the structure of the story or the optional missions were provided in the interview printed in “Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Material Ultimania Plus”.

Since we are currently working internally towards a release in 2027, it will probably take some time before we are provided with solid details about the third act of “Final Fantasy 7: Remake” and its contents.

Work on the story already completed

This month, Yoshinori Kitase, the remake's producer, confirmed that work on the final part is making progress. Accordingly, the authors have already successfully completed work on the story of the role-playing game. The team is currently preparing to set the story and dialogues to music.

As creative director Tetsuya Nomura added, we may be able to look forward to a new element in the third part of the remake that was not included in the previous “Final Fantasy 7”.

Unfortunately, Nomura was not more specific about this. Instead, he simply stated, “He notes that Kitase suggested to him the idea of including something that was very important, even though it wasn't in the original game.”

“And Nomura is thinking about how to implement it. He believes that if they do it well, it will definitely make people happy.”
