Lead class designer Adam Jackson and associate game director Joe Piepiora recently spoke about some of these “bad ideas” in an interview with “Raxxanterax”. The problems stemmed from the fact that the developers didn't realize how boring it was to “do” some things 2,000 times.

Blizzard now has a different testing process, developers say

In the interview, Adam Jackson stated that the internal testing process for “Diablo 4” is a little more robust today than it used to be. What this means was not further explained. However, it sounds like the team is now spending more time testing new features, such as the public test realm introduced for Season 4.

“That's where you find things that are obvious to the players. Which were bad ideas, but sounded like good ideas when we sat in the room and talked about them,” Jackson said. He cited the new tempering in Season 4 as an example. The process plays an animation each time that cannot be skipped.

The balance is sometimes difficult

“Sometimes things fall through the cracks, like hey, doing this 2,000 times is actually terrible because you have to wait forever and you actually want to have a moment of celebration and that the cool thing is cool. Balancing these things can be more difficult internally. We have made this mistake so many times that we are aware of it. When we develop a new feature or a new activity, we ask ourselves what it feels like to do that for 200 hours.”

“Diablo 4” will start its fourth season in a few days. This was actually supposed to start on April 16thbut will now start from May 14, 2024.
