While they were used to metroidvanias, the developers of Moon Studios (Ori and the Blind Forest) have just launched early access for No Rest for the Wicked. In this action-RPG between Diablo and Dark Souls, it's quite easy to make mistakes that could ruin your life. We explain how to avoid them.

  • Enchant an item you use
  • Ignoring resource harvesting
  • Save your items for later
  • Focus on the main quest

Disperse yourself into your attributes and characteristics

In most titles with a minimum of role-playing game elements, it is quite common to have to start your adventure by choosing a character class. This is for example the case in Diablo or Dark Souls, two games in which No Rest for the Wicked draws inspiration. However, in Moon Studios' latest title, each player starts at level 1 with all stats at 10, without having the option to choose a slightly more specific class. It will then be up to the player to increase the attributes of their choice to make their own class.

Since it is currently impossible to reset your attribute points and we only gain 3 per higher level, the latter are particularly valuable and should not be spent haphazardly. To avoid making mistakes, we advise you to focus on the HealthL'Endurancethere Concentration and the Load equipped at the start of the game. Indeed, whatever your style of play, you will necessarily need a little of these four statistics. Subsequently, you can then add points in one or two of the 4 power statistics of the game (Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and Faith), depending on the type of weapon you want to play. For more information on this subject, we refer you to our Attributes guide and towards our guide to No Rest for the Wicked Classes.

Enchant an item you use

After a few hours of playing No Rest for the Wicked, you will quickly notice that there are four different rarity levels for weapons, armor and accessories: Ordinary, Rare, Plagued And Unique. If the Unique objects are particularly rare (everything seems to show that they can only be recovered by eliminating a boss), the other three levels of rarity are quite easily accessible. Indeed, once you have access to the city of Sacramentyou can also enchant your equipment withEleanor the Enchantress to transform an Ordinary item into a Rare or Plague item. While you might be tempted to directly upgrade your equipped items to improve them, we can only advise you not to do so.

Please note, we are not saying that you should not enchant objects using the Enchantress, far from it. However, be careful to have the item in question in duplicate, or at least another equally good one to equip before enchanting it. Indeed, Eleanor will transform your Ordinary item into Rare or Plague, and you could well lose in the process. If the object becomes Plagueed and one of its penalties is as terrible as the one that makes you lose stamina with each hit received for example, it will become almost unusable.. We therefore advise you not toenchant only items you can do without so as not to have any unpleasant surprises.

Ignoring resource harvesting

Quite quickly in your adventure, you will be able to equip yourself withharvesting tools like a choppeda pickaxea shovel or a fishing rod. Between their fairly low durability, the few resources you recover per harvest and the time it takes to do so, you might quickly want to leave this aspect of the game aside to concentrate on combat. Unfortunately, We advise you not to ignore the harvest, since you will need as many resources as possible.

Indeed, once you have reached the city of Sacramentyou can talk to an NPC to improve certain shops like the blacksmith, the enchantress or the cook, to recite nobody else but them. If you want to be able to easily upgrade your weapons and armor to the maximum and thus greatly increase your attack and defense, you will quickly want to renovate the city as much as possible. To do this, however, you will need to gather several dozen logs of wood and other copper ores. We therefore advise you to start collecting everything you find from your first exploration. Be careful not to break your tools if you don't want to have to buy them again. Prefer to repair them at the blacksmith as soon as necessary.

Save your items for later

In No Rest for the Wicked, you'll collect a ton of different items as you explore the world. Among them, we find weapons and armor, of course, but also resources to rebuild the city, improve its equipment or make cooking dishes. Normally, you will have no trouble using all of this on your own. However, you will also happen to pick up a large number ofitems usable in combat like grenades, oils to apply to your weapons or potions to recover concentration or stamina.

Many players tend to keep these items carefully and only use them in the event of a big problem, typically when facing a formidable boss. In No Rest for the Wicked, however, we advise you not to hesitate for a single second to use all the consumables, even against slightly more ordinary enemies.. Indeed, if you explore correctly, you will find a lot of objects of all kinds and will have plenty to collect when you need them most. Items are an integral part of the game's gameplay and using them could make your adventure much easier, don't miss this opportunity just to be the goblin who keeps everything in his pocket.

Focus on the main quest

We already talked to you about it in our 7 tips for getting started, but No Rest for the Wicked is a game whose level design may well convince you. Between the fairly high number of different paths to take and the certain verticality of the title areas, you risk getting lost from time to time, and that's not really a bad thing. Indeed, Whether it's to collect more resources or to gain a little extra experience, it's in your best interest to take your time in No Rest for the Wicked.

If you decide to focus on the main quest, you risk arriving a little quickly in areas full of powerful enemies, not to mention the bosses who could humiliate you in a few hits. In order to overcome this problem, we strongly advise you to visit all the areas, do the side quests and even retrace your steps once the fog of war returns. In this way, you should slowly improve yourself and your equipment, to finally manage to advance in the main quest without having to bang your head against the wall. In other words, like an Elden Ring, if an area gives you too many problems, don't hesitate to look elsewhere to gain level before returning. Moreover, certain gameplay elements such as housing or the potion merchant can only be unlocked by completing side quests.
