41 Years Later, A Classic Movie Will Be Free to Watch on TV in 2024

The 80's invite themselves to TF1+

Notice to the most nostalgic readers: TF1+ strikes a big blow by offering Flashdance, an absolutely cult film from the 80s, for free. In the same way as films like Footloose or Dirty Dancing, Flashdance marked an entire generation of spectators who thrilled to the rhythm of their legendary soundtrack. An absolute hit when it was released in 1983, Flashdance became the highest-grossing film of that year, grossing nearly $200 million at the time, all on a budget of $7 million.

This success is obviously due to the talent of the various people who worked on the project, notably the famous producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. Originally, Flashdance could have been directed by David Cronenberg or Brian de Palma. But the production ultimately went to Adrian Lyne who decided to make a film with an aesthetic close to the music videos of the time. An idea that totally worked.

We necessarily remember the music first What a Feeling performed by Irene Cara and written by the legendary Giorgio Moroder, composer of, among others, the soundtrack to Scarface and Top Gun. We also find the title Maniac by Michael Sembello and whose clip was also directed by Adrian Lyne. Filled with hits, the Flashdance soundtrack has sold more than 20 million copies and is still one of the best-selling albums in the world today.
