After years of waiting, the Top Spin license is finally back with TopSpin 2K25, but despite its qualities, the title makes players cringe a lot. While the return of the franchise has generated enormous enthusiasm, the already planned closure of the servers has clearly tarnished the picture.

The closure of Top Spin 2K25 servers is planned for the end of 2026

By going to the game page, for example on the PlayStation Store, we can discover that it is planned that the TopSpin 2K25 servers will close on December 31, 2026, a practice to which basketball fans are already accustomed.

Please note that the online functions of TOPSPIN 2K25 are planned to be available until December 31, 2026, although we reserve the right to modify or discontinue the online functions without notice.

In other words, unless there is a change, the title will only have a lifespan of around 2 and a half years, which may seem really low. In fact, 2K has a habit of doing this with its sports games. For example, NBA 2K22 servers closed on December 31, 2023.

Part of the community obviously rejects this practice, to the extent that it forces people to purchase a more recent opus. However, it is currently unknown whether 2K plans to annualize its tennis franchise. Let's remember that Top Spin 4 dates from 2011!

Shutting down servers will make some single-player content obsolete

Closing the servers is extremely problematic, since it will make a large part of the game completely obsolete from 2027. Only Exhibition and TopSpin Academy modes are playable offline. Note that MyCareer mode was announced as playable offline, but the website was updated at the last moment.

So, when the servers are closed, it will no longer be possible to access MyCareer, World Tour, 2K Tour and Online Exhibition modes at all. As you can see from the screenshots we took, the page was modified on April 29.
