25 year old classic dissects current blockbusters

Crazy world in the cinemas. There has been no shortage of current Hollywood blockbusters in recent weeks. First the science fiction epic Dune 2 won big, only to be replaced by the no less successful monster spectacle Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. A little later, the surprise hit Civil War caused quite a stir on the big screen. But even this concentrated blockbuster power isn't enough to stop a 25-year-old classic.

When did Alien originally come to cinemas?

In 1979 the science fiction film celebrated Alien: The scary creature from a strange world debuted in cinemas worldwide and laid the foundation for a franchise that remains extremely popular to this day. The masterpiece from director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Blade Runner) starred Sigourney Weaver at the time almost $79 million into the cash registers. Despite the comparatively low sales, a large fan base quickly established itself, and a total of five more films with the dangerous and frightening Xenomorph followed. The film is currently celebrating its second spring.

Alien is still as successful today

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary 20th Century Fox the film Alien: The Uncanny Creature from a Strange World last weekend released again in cinemas, at least in the USA and Australia. The re-release of the science fiction classic was well received there and brought a surprising amount of money into the coffers.

On its opening weekend, the new release of Alien: The Uncanny Creature from a Strange World was released in the USA alone almost $1.6 million. On some days, even Dune 2 and the action film Monkey Man, described as the “new John Wick,” couldn’t keep up. The re-release of Spider-Man 2 recently enjoyed a similar surprise success.
