Rest is not permitted for “Production IG” teams. After the surprise “Heavenly Delusion”, available on Disney +, the studio is tackling “Kaiju n°8”. Since its publication in Shonen Jump in 2020, the manga has exceeded 11 million copies sold. In France, the series will be broadcast exclusively on Crunchyroll from April 2024. In case you have never heard of this modern “shonen”, you will be surprised to know that you may have come across it! Indeed, on the occasion of its release by Kazé Manga, a giant poster was hung on one of the towers of the National Library.
Kaiju #8: the art of destroying everything in its path
“Kaiju No. 8” mixes science fiction and kaijus, giant creatures often associated with the Japanese monster genre. Inspired by classics like “Godzilla”, the series presents a fresh vision of this genre by exploring classic shonen themes: friendship, courage, perseverance, surpassing oneself… The author, Naoya Matsumoto, draws on Japanese traditions to tell us the story of Kafka. This ordinary character works on a cleanup team, tasked with clearing the city of Kaiju debris. Unfortunately for him, he finds himself “contaminated” and gains new abilities. From there, Kafka will do everything to fulfill his dream and fight the enemies of humanity.
An anime that must prove itself
In 2022, during polls to find out which anime was the most anticipated, “Kaiju No. 8” appeared in the top 10. For this new franchise, it is certainly the best time to stand out. In this industry where content is abundant, the biggest titles are currently on pause in production. Thus “Kaiju n°8”, in competition with “Solo Levelling”, will be able to try to monopolize the public's attention, before the return of “Jujutsu Kaisen” or “Chainsaw Man”. If the scenario remains classic, the anime can stand out for the quality of its production. To date, four trailers have been published on YouTube and the comments are clear: “the fight scenes seem well worked and the hype is at its peak!“
