Chinese tech giant Baidu said its Ernie chatbot was developed entirely from scratch after some users raised concerns that the company might have copied its text-to-image capabilities.
Ernie Bot is an open source chatbot based on the Ernie 3.0 natural language generation model that was introduced by Baidu last week.It can communicate with users in various languages and create images by text requests.

However, some users have noticed similarities between Ernie Bot and ChatGPT, another chatbot with the ability to generate images from text queries.
In particular, when users asked both bots to draw Turkey (Turkey), they received the same images of a turkey (turkey) – a bird that has nothing to do with the country.
Baidu also explained the reason for the error.The company noted that Ernie Bot uses an English-language dataset to generate images from texts.Since the word “Turkey” has two meanings in English – country and bird – the bot chose the one that was more likely to appear in this dataset.
The company added that Ernie Bot is still under development and will improve as it receives feedback from users.

Ernie Bot is one example of how Baidu is looking to solidify its leadership in artificial intelligence in China.The company is also working on projects in the areas of autonomous driving, cloud computing and smart voice assistants.
